Meet the Jersey Hemp Wellness Ambassadors – Ryan and Elly Hodgson

We started Hodgson Health around 5 years ago, because we could see Kopa Steroider that our clients wanted more than just a 30-minute fitness session. They were looking for a holistic approach that would help with their mindset, lifestyle, nutrition and activity as a whole. So that’s how we coach our clients. And we find it much more rewarding to see them change their life, and then how those changes benefit everyone around them, their partner, their kids and their work colleagues!

Nowadays, people find stress and pressure seems to come from so many areas. Through Hodgson Health, we help people design a holistic life approach that packages up better eating habits, better exercise habits, better communication skills and a better lifestyle.

Our CBD journey

We were introduced to Jersey Hemp a few months ago and have been using their CBD oils in our own daily routine. We were really impressed by their passion and their processes from the way they grow organic hemp to producing a really high quality, verified supplement. They are industry leaders in quality hemp and licensed to extract CBD which no one else is able to do in the UK. And as fellow islanders who share a passion for wellness, we want to support that.

Like many people we were confused about hemp, and compared it to cannabis. But when you actually educate yourself and do your own research, you understand that there is a huge difference. Hemp and high quality CBD can be a very positive, natural addition to your life. Especially considering hemp is a completely vegan protein supplement containing all nine essential amino acids (source: Healthline article). As time goes on, there will be more and more studies that back up how powerful this plant is, and I would encourage everyone to do their own research and find out how to choose high quality hemp and CBD products. They’re a great addition to a holistic, healthy and balanced lifestyle.

How to choose a high quality supplement – advice from Ryan & Elly

Looking to invest in a food supplement to benefit your health? Always go for the highest quality. It’s your health after all, so why would you go for a cheap option? It’s important that people recognise how vital it is to choose a good quality supplement, as opposed to trying an inferior, cheaper product and then giving up because it didn’t work!

At Jersey Hemp, you can see the passion behind their British CBD brand – they genuinely care and want to help people. Also, they’ve had control over their hemp from the moment it’s planted and have thought through every step of the process to deliver high quality CBD and organic hemp to their customers.

Their vegan hemp protein powder is made from cold-pressed seeds, which we recommend, as it’s both easier to digest and preserves the nutrients contained in the hemp seed. See how it can help you with this article from Healthline

Why we chose to start using Jersey Hemp CBD

Life is hectic for us, juggling the demands of a young family with running a busy business. We felt a connection with the Jersey Hemp team and their values, and wanted to invest in our health by trying their products. Like so many people, lockdown was a tough time with a lot of new  challenges to deal with. We really appreciated feeling as if we were taking control of our anxiety and stress by making a daily habit to take CBD. We’ve certainly noticed a difference ourselves and will continue to add it to our daily wellness routines through CBD in our morning coffee as well as just taking it by the dropper.

Why choose a Hemp Protein Powder?

Some people have a stereotypical view that protein powder is just for building muscle, but almost all of our clients use it – both men and women. That’s because it’s not only a great protein source, but also a way to benefit from essential vitamins and minerals) (source 2) / Protein Powder can also be an ideal supplement for a healthy, balanced weight loss programme for men and women.

We have many clients who are vegans, and have struggled to find a product to help them supplement their plant-based diet with complete protein. Hemp protein powder is totally vegan so it’s a great option. In the Western world, our diets tend to contain lower levels of protein compared to carbohydrates. So a protein supplement is definitely something we would recommend. For a plant-based / vegan diet, it’s important to have a lot of different sources of plant-based protein in your diet, but hemp protein powder should definitely be one of those sources.

Lactose-intolerant? Jersey Hemp protein powder could be for you.

Many typical protein powders are whey-based. That can cause problems if you have a dairy intolerance. People who are sensitive to too much dairy could notice symptoms like bloating and skin flare ups. An easy way to avoid that would be to switch to a plant-based protein like hemp for one of your shakes, and then monitor how you feel. Most people could do with the flexibility of being able to introduce a more plant-based protein into their daily routine.

Hemp protein powder will also contain fibre, nutrients, other vitamins and amino acids, so it’s a more complete protein source. Great if you’re following a plant-based style of eating! As if that’s not enough, another amazing advantage of Hemp protein powder is that the naturally high level of fibre in hemp protein powder may leave you feeling fuller for longer!

Tips for including Hemp Protein Powder in your diet

If you’re travelling, take your protein powder with you. Then, even if you’re struggling to find food with the right nutrients, at least you know you can supplement your diet with a protein boost!

Hemp protein puts plant-based protein and minerals in a concentrated form. What does this mean for you? You can up your intake of protein without having to overload your digestive system with bulky veggies!

Protein shakes aren’t just for bodybuilders, they’re an easily accessible, portable way to get your protein intake, and they’re growing in popularity for women. Jersey Hemp’s organic hemp protein powder is vegan, dairy-free and high in nutrients – and you can use it as a substitute for flour and bake with it! See below for Elly and Ryan’s favourite recipes for tasty, protein-rich snacks that are a perfect post-yoga pick me up.

Elly & Ryan’s Hemp Protein Powder Recipes – Breakfast

Jersey Hemp protein powder smoothie

Power Protein Hemp Smoothie with Strawberries and Almond Milk

  • 2 tbsp hemp protein powder
  • 200g frozen strawberries
  • 225g frozen bananas
  • 120ml almond milk
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Now blend all the ingredients until smooth, adding ice if desired.

Jersey Hemp protein powder muesli
A healthy home made breakfast muesli with hemp protein powder

Protein Packed Apple and Cinnamon Bircher Muesli

  • 45 gram cup or rolled oats (I tend to use gluten free)
  • 245 gram of any type of milk – preferably almond  milk
  • 1 apple
  • 12 teaspoons of  raisins or sultanas
  • 2 teaspoons of Jersey Hemp protein powder
  • Cinnamon to taste – more is more!
  • Sprinkle of seeds – sunflower and hemp works well
  • Optional – spoon of yoghurt, preferably plant based yoghurt

How to make:
Grate the apple (leave the skin on).  Mix apple, oats, raisins or sultanas, milk, cinnamon and seeds together.  Mix in the hemp protein powder. Cover and leave in the fridge overnight.

This is a good portion for one person. You can double, triple or quadruple to make a bigger batch to last a few days.  When you come to serve it you will probably need to loosen it up a little; a dollop of yoghurt works well or just add a splash more almond milk…. even water. Once you have this mastered this get creative – any seeds, nuts, dried fruit or fresh fruit can work!

Tip: if you have a high-powered blender like a Nutribullet then you can add the cored apple to the milk and just blitz.  It saves time grating. Or if you don’t have any almond milk to hand you can just make your own.  Add 15-20g of nuts (almond, hazelnut, cashew) to the water and blitz, no need to strain it.
